Tongue-tied Infant
Ankyloglossia is the correct term for being tongue-tied. This condition can be described as having an abnormally short frenulum (the tissue that connects the tongue to the floor of your mouth) under the tongue. This congenital abnormality can interfere with breastfeeding because tongue movements are limited. Your baby's tongue is checked during a newborn exam in the hospital. If your baby is tongue-tied and is having problems with breastfeeding, a simple outpatient procedure can be done to fix the problem. Most babies with this condition do not need any treatment at all.
