Breastfeeding - Management of Common Breastfeeding Issues

Burning or Bright Red Nipples

If your nipples are bright red or pink and itch or burn, you probably have a yeast infection in the skin. Commonly, there is nipple pain throughout an entire feeding. Your baby may have white patches in his mouth or a red diaper rash. This situation is not serious and is easily treated. If you think you are experiencing these symptoms or have noticed symptoms in your baby, please call our office to speak with a nurse or doctor. Both you and your baby will need to be treated simultaneously if there is a yeast infection.
